When Pain Needs Attention

Do not simply live with pain. If it is persistent, worsening or limiting your life, it deserves proper assessment.

Back, neck or shoulder pain that keeps returning

Joint or muscle pain and stiffness that limits movement

Burning, tingling or shooting pain along an arm or leg

Pain that lasts for weeks or months after an injury or surgery

Poor sleep, low mood or reduced activity because of pain

Sudden severe pain, weakness, fever or loss of bladder control — seek urgent care

Understanding Pain

Acute vs. Chronic Pain

The type of pain shapes the treatment, so we start by understanding how long and how severe it has been.

Acute Pain

Short-term pain that follows an injury, illness or operation. It usually settles as the body heals, and good treatment keeps you comfortable and moving during recovery.

Chronic Pain

Pain that lasts for months or keeps returning. It often has several causes and needs a broader plan that includes treatment, activity and lifestyle support to improve daily life.

Conditions We Treat

Nerve Pain & Sciatica

Post-Surgery Pain

Your Questions Answered

Pain Management — Frequently Asked Questions

When is pain a sign of something serious?

Get medical help urgently for sudden severe pain, pain with fever, weakness or numbness, chest pain, or back pain with loss of bladder or bowel control. Pain that keeps returning or lasts more than a few weeks should also be examined.

Will I have to take painkillers for a long time?

Not necessarily. The aim is to treat the cause and use medicines only as needed and at the lowest effective dose. Long-term use should always be supervised by a doctor, because painkillers can have side effects.

Can chronic pain be cured?

Sometimes the cause can be treated and the pain resolves. In other cases pain cannot be removed completely, but the right combination of treatment, exercise and self-care can greatly reduce it and help you do more of what you enjoy.

Is exercise safe when I am in pain?

In most cases, gentle guided movement helps rather than harms, and rest for too long can make stiffness and pain worse. Your doctor will tell you which activities are safe and how to build up gradually.

Do I need surgery for pain?

Most pain improves without surgery. An operation is considered only for specific causes, such as certain fractures, joint or nerve problems, when other treatment has not worked. We will explain this clearly if it applies to you.
